How Cans Unlimited Became CUI
CUI started in 1978 as Cans Unlimited, Inc. As a supplier of kerosene heaters, wicks, accessories, and replacement parts, our founder, Al Groves, sensed a need for a kerosene fuel container that looked different from standard red gas cans. He began brokering and selling these blue kerosene cans in massive quantities, and Cans Unlimited Inc. was born.
CUI began a natural transition into gas products in the early 1990s. In 1993 we became one of the original distributors for Monessen Hearth Systems, a relationship that is still strong today. We currently partner with R.H. Peterson, Empire Comfort Systems, Hearth & Home Technologies, and Superior, to name a few. CUI is an authorized parts and warranty center for these manufacturers.
In 2009, CUI launched a new division specializing in gas equipment and supplies and was named as a RegO Master Distributor. To serve this segment of our industry, we formed a team of experienced sales representatives and expanded with two new locations in Ocala, Florida and Cullman, Alabama.
In 2018, CUI continued its growth with the acquisition of Total Hearth and the addition of our Mt. Sterling, KY location. This expansion provided a significant increase to our warehouse capacity while allowing us to deliver products to more dealers in an even shorter amount of time. On top of that, we added the Total Hearth team to the CUI family with tons of expert industry knowledge and experience.
Today, CUI is an established industry leader with unmatched inventory and turnaround time. We provide our dealers and distributors with top-quality products as well as comprehensive technical and warranty assistance. Our organization continues to grow while maintaining the same focus on family and service that Mr. Groves instilled in the company over 40 years ago.
CUI carries thousands of products from some of the industry’s most trusted brands, and we still have kerosene cans! For a complete listing of Hearth, Grill, Outdoor Room, and Gas Equipment products available now, please visit our online Resource Center.
